Community Messenger Alert – Theft From Motor Vehicles

Community Messenger Alert – Theft From Motor Vehicles

Overnight on 23/10/2026, North Yorkshire Police received two reports of thefts from motor vehicles in the Knaresborough area, specifically on Lands Lane and Dentdale Drive.

In both incidents, offenders gained access to vehicles and stole personal belongings and tools left inside.

As the darker evenings draw in and winter approaches, this serves as a timely reminder for residents across the Harrogate Outer area to take steps to protect both their vehicles and their homes. Whilst these offences have occurred in Knaresborough, they could happen anywhere within our district, and we want to help prevent further incidents from taking place.

We would encourage residents to:

🔒 Always lock vehicles and ensure windows are fully closed, even when parked on your driveway.

👜 Remove valuables, bags, tools and personal items from vehicles, or ensure they are kept out of sight.

💡 Park in well-lit areas where possible and consider using CCTV, vehicle alarms or security lighting.

🏠 Make sure your home, garage and outbuildings are secure, particularly during the longer hours of darkness over the winter months.

👀 Report any suspicious people or vehicles seen in your neighbourhood, especially during the evening and overnight.

We have included a link to the North Yorkshire Police website which provides further advice on keeping your home safe and secure.
